The Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is pleased to announce that U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao will be a keynote speaker at its annual conference October 3-5, 2007 in Louisville.
Chao was confirmed as Secretary of Labor by the U.S. Senate on January 29, 2001 and is the first Asian-American woman to serve in a presidential cabinet in American history.

Secretary Chao will discuss the state of the U.S. economy and the competitiveness of the American workforce. An advocate for lifelong learning, she will also discuss the skills gap our country faces as well as the critical relationship between education and earnings. Additionally, the Secretary will outline Department of Labor initiatives that address the skills gap and help increase the competitiveness of the American workforce. She will also update the conference attendees on legislation and regulatory initiatives affecting workers.
